What Is Truth?

-- By Les Dennis

When Pilate was struggling with what to do with Jesus, he asked the profound question, "What is truth?" (Luke 18:36) It was a question that confused him, even as the One who is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6) was standing before him. That same question still confuses mankind today.

Today, we live in the post-modern age, which denies that there is such a thing as absolute truth. Everyone is declared to be right, except for those who believe there is such a thing as absolute truth. Our society is slipping further into the bondage of the false. Those who falsely think that VLT's will bring them riches are finding that they cannot stop themselves from sliding into despair as they waste their livelihood. Those who believe in transcendental meditation or spirituality without God are finding a different kind of bondage as they slip into a false reality of spiritual deception that leads to destruction.

The false teachings on the road to destruction are many, with lots of variety to keep one entertained along the way. However there is only one truth, Jesus. The truth that brings freedom starts when we trust only in Him for forgiveness of sin and assurance of heaven.

As we enjoy our freedom in Jesus, let's remember that most people in our community are on that wide road to destruction. What can we do about it? We can start now to pray for a least one person in our community who needs the Lord. Do not be concerned about how to approach that person right now. Just pray for that person and ask the Lord to approach that one, using whomever He pleases to do so. Ask the Lord to send someone to tell that person about the truth that brings freedom. You never know how the Lord may work in his/her life!
