The Way of Righteousness
-- By Les Dennis
In Psalm 1, King David shows the contrast between the way of righteousness and the way of wickedness. Because the righteous lifestyle brings stability, he compares it to a tree planted near a river with a root system that keeps it steady in the storms. The wicked lifestyle, however, creates an instability that he compares to chaff blowing in the wind. The counsel of the wicked always leads to walking in the way of sinners and sitting in the seat of those who look upon righteousness with scorn.
There is no escape from the storms of life. Both the righteous and the wicked must experience them, but the righteous have the resources to handle the strong winds and even the hurricanes that come upon them.
If we reject the counsel of the wicked, refuse to walk the walk of the sinners, and stay clear of the scorners, we can have the life of stability that comes from meditating on the Word of God. If we delight in the law of God and allow it to do its work in our hearts and lives, we can also take delight as we see God working to make us what we ought to be.
If you have been listening to the counsel of the wicked, there is still time to turn your life around. Come to Jesus today, and accept the forgiveness He has to give you. All the past walking in the way of sinners and scorners can be washed away this morning. You can have a fresh start and you can be made ready to stand up under the storms of life. Will you come to Jesus today?
