The Sky Writing of God Says There is a Creator
-- By Les Dennis
The heavens declare the glory of God, as it says in Psalm 19:1. This announcement of God is made in the heavens and speaks directly to the hearts of all mankind. It is given without the languages of men, and it goes everywhere on earth that is touched by the sun, as Psalm 19:3-4 explains so poetically and clearly.
Only a very calloused heart can look at the stars in the heavens on a clear night, and declare, “There is no God. There is no Creator. All of this is the product of random chance. “ To disbelieve in a Creator requires a constant hardening of the heart against the message that God has imprinted in the very sky above us.
In addition to the witness of the heavens, there is another witness in the inner being of every person. Within our hearts God has placed a sense that all is not well, and that the Creator is angry. This sense that God is angry comes from the knowledge of a revealed standard of righteousness, and that we have violated that standard. For example, we all have an innate sense of fairness, which comes from the knowledge that there is an absolute standard of justice in the universe. Mankind’s sense of fairness may be corrupted by self-interest, but it exists none the less. (Romans 1:17-20)
Since we are all aware of God’s eternal power and Godhead, the human race is without excuse for its wickedness. The natural tendency of the human heart is to suppress this witness from within, as well as the witness in the heavens above, and to set out to enjoy the temporary pleasures of sin.
God has provided a way out of this downward slide into judgment. Jesus died to pay for our sins, even though we have suppressed the truth and sinned without excuse. If we trust His work on the cross, He forgives us, cleanses us from our wickedness, and declares us justified in His sight. He takes up residence within us and gives us the power to live in a way that is pleasing to Him.
May we all give glory to the Creator who has gone to such lengths to make sure we understand His message to us, and to offer us forgiveness and salvation. Let us honour Him in what we say and do.
