The Foundational Beliefs of Christianity
-- By Les Dennis
All of the foundational beliefs of Christianity are interrelated. A few weeks ago, we looked at the verbal inerrancy of Scripture and took note that the Bible underlies all of our beliefs because it is the source of our knowledge about God.
The divinity of Christ and the virgin birth of Christ is so closely related that we cannot have one without the other. If Christ were not virgin born, He would have a sin nature and we could not be saved from our sins.
The substitutionary atonement depends on the sinlessness of Jesus because we must have a sinless substitute to take our place on the cross.
The physical resurrection and return of Jesus are tied together in an obvious way, since Jesus could not return unless He arose from the dead.
These five doctrines are so important that all evangelical Christians hold to them firmly. If we weaken on any of these five beliefs, we will eventually loose that all.
